[Old entry]

Over the weekend, I decided to try and make “Kek Batik” [Batik Cake].. It has been a long time since I made this.. About 4 years ago? I don’t really remember.. Well, when I made it before, I didn’t even knew the name of the cake and I didn’t use any measurement.. I just threw the ingredients in together - Milo, Condensed Milk, Butter, and Marie biscuits - and it still turned out great.. A lil’ too crunchy though, cos I didn’t mix in the biscuits with the batter for a tad longer.. Well, at that time, I didn’t know why the cake wasn’t soft.. And I was too lazy to find out, cos it still taste great.. Why would I want to change it? Haha..

Last week, I found the recipe below on this site.. and I decided I needed to get off my lazy ass and to try it.. It’s fairly simple.. I think this recipe is great for kids..It’s easy enough to follow, and it’s a milo-chocolatey cake..Do I need to say more?.. Although they will need help from an adult to use the stove..

Ingredients

A:
5 eggs
2 cups of milo powder
(or cocoa powder or half-half, if you don’t like the sickly sweet taste of milo)
1 cup of condensed milk
3/4 cup of water

[I omitted out the nescafe.. but if you want to try it, be my guest]

B:
3 big tablespoons of butter
250g of Marie biscuit
(or Digestive biscuit, if you can’t find Marie biscuit)

Method:
1. Stir the ingredients from A in a big bowl..

This is how the batter will look like.. Yumm-o.. Thank goodness I was fasting when I made this.. If I wasn’t, I think I’d have start pigging out this delicious looking batter.. And it smells yummy too.. Well, if you’re not fasting.. then you need to have a very strong will-power to not start pigging out.. Trust me, it’ll do you good..

2. Heat the butter in a big pan, over a low heat, until it’s fully melted…
3. Pour in the batter into the heated butter and stir until it becomes thick. Really, really thick..

I only stirred the batter for about 15 minutes.. The liquidity batter becomes a bit dark and thick and lumpy.. I thought the 15 minutes of non-stop stirring were enough, but I later found out that the batter was still a tad too liquidity.. I guess you need another 25 or 30 minutes more of stirring.. I know it’s a long time, but hey look at the bright side.. the stirring is a good exercise for your arm.. Hee!

4. Switch off the fire. Break the biscuits into halves, mix and fold the biscuits into the batter.. Do it longer, if you want the cake to be soft…

5. When everything is well-mixed, pour everything into a rectangular or a square pan.. Or just use a cake tin or plastic container if you want to.. It’s up to you..

6. Press the chocolate dough and leave it in the fridge until it’s hardened.

The cake was still a bit too soft for my liking, even after about 5 hours in the fridge.. And it didn’t look as good as I wanted it to.. I was hoping for a brownie-like texture.. But it taste great! Very yummylicious indeed..

Bite-size pieces of my Kek Batik

I will just have to make sure I would stir the batter longer, the next time I make this… Or maybe I need to modify the ingredients a ‘lil bit.. If not, I’ll probably try another different recipe.. I’ll let you know…

*Thanx to my bro for the photos..
